Plain-language glossary
- WordPress
- A system that lets you log in and change your own site. The most common one in the world.
- Gutenberg
- The editor inside WordPress. You click on a paragraph or a picture and change it, like a document.
- Static site
- A site with no login and no database. Very fast and cheap to run, but changes come through us.
- Hosting
- The computer your site lives on, switched on all the time. We run ours.
- Domain
- Your address on the internet, like yourbusiness.com. It belongs to you.
- DNS
- The directory that points your domain at your site. Changing it is how a site moves.
- Staging
- A private copy of your site where changes are tried before the public sees them.
- Care plan
- A fixed monthly amount for hosting, updates, backups and small edits.
- Backup
- A saved copy of your site from an earlier day, so a mistake can be undone.
- Catalog / SKU
- Your list of products. An SKU is one item in it — one size, one colour, one code.
- CDN
- A network that keeps a copy of your site near your visitors so it loads fast everywhere.
- Brief
- A short written description of what you need. This questionnaire produces one.
